Scope of Practice

PLEASE NOTE:  For privacy reasons I do not use the "Patient Login/Patient Portal" section of this website.  It is a service used by physician offices who belong to something called "HealthKey."  Information you input there is not sent to my office, but your other physicians may subscribe to this.

Adult Psychiatry

I am certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the Treatment of Psychiatric illness. This includes a broad range of disorders to include Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder, among many others.

I am no longer accepting patients with Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorders) or head injuries. These patients are referred to other specialists.

Sport Psychiatry
I have a special interest in the Psychiatric care of athletes of all skill levels. Sport Psychiatry is not recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a distinct specialty.

Christian Psychiatry
As requested, a spiritually-based approach will be followed. Please don''t worry--nothing will be brought up without your request. But spiritual peace can decrease, or even eliminate, medication. Feel free to ask about it. :-)

Care Philosophy
I love my job! I want your interactions with me to be among the best you have ever had with your doctor. When someone takes the trouble to make an appointment with me, things already often feel out of hand. My care philosophy is built on the idea that medications are to be used thoughtfully. I don''t want you to feel "like a zombie" after trying medication, very unpleasant for someone already struggling with problems. I focus on wellness, rather than treating you as "sick."

If you are a new patient--I will do EVERYTHING I CAN to get you seen quickly.  However, please understand I cannot cancel current patient appointments solely in order to fit in a new patient.  If we have a cancellation in which I can see a new patient sooner, we will ABSOLUTELY start working to get a new patient seen ahead of schedule. There''s just one of me, and I promise to do the best I can to get to you.

As you read from above, my goal is to return you to wellness rather than treat you as if you are "sick." For this reason medications, if they are recommended at all, are thoughtfully chosen and kept at a minimum. We may decide together that medications are not right for you.

Customer service is my highest priority. I, too, hate going to a doctor''s office and having to wait sometimes an hour past my appointment time to get seen. I do my best to stay on schedule, and for this reason I ask patients to please be on time for appointments. I never book more than three follow up appointments per hour. This ensures I''ll have adequate time to address your issues.

The flip side of this customer service is that I have a strict missed appointment policy. If my missed appointment fees are not acceptable to you, please seek care with a physician whose financial policies better suit you.

If there are problems with your medication, with the waiting room, with my answering service, if I have something stuck in my teeth, or ANYTHING else I want my patients to come to me with the problem. I can''t fix what I don''t know about.
